- Astra Agro Lestari has engaged with Pasifik Agro Sentosa Group, the parent company of the alleged entity, to seek clarification regarding the allegations raised in the Rapid Response 50 Report from Mighty Earth.
- Pasifik Agro Sentosa Group stated that the deforestation allegation pertains to land re-maintenance activities conducted by PT Jalin Vaneo on previously cleared areas in 2016 and the soil type is mineral.
- PT Jalin Vaneo conducted HCV and HCS assessments in 2010 and 2016 respectively, leading to land clearing in mineral soil zones based on expert recommendations. In 2019, the Ministry of Environment and Forestry confirmed the area was not peatland through field verification and TMAT mapping. Due to poor maintenance, the company undertook land upkeep in 2022 to address stunted growth and overgrown vegetation. A 2024 transect inventory reaffirmed the mineral soil status, pending further field verification by the Ministry.
- Based on the statement provided by Pasifik Agro Sentosa Group, we consider that the allegation is unproven and the case has been dropped.
